Mission Statement
The mission of Career and Technical Education, as part of the educational system in Maine, is to ensure that students acquire the high-quality technical skills that will prepare them for post-secondary education and entry into an ever-changing workplace and society and meet the rigorous academic standards of Maine’s Learning Results.
Our Vision

CTE in a Nutshell
Training an educated workforce is key to developing a successful and productive economy and society. Career and Technical Education, through its Career Clusters, Pathways, and Programs, empowers students to develop the attributes and skills necessary to become successful citizens, workers, and leaders.
Maine has 27 secondary Career and Technical Education centers and regions that provide students with industry-based 21st Century career and occupational skills and knowledge, as well as pathways to postsecondary education and training.
Maine must ensure that ALL secondary students have the opportunity to access rigorous and relevant Career and Technical Education that trains students for career and academic excellence and prepares them for their future.
Today’s CTE provides students:
- Career Pathways and Programs of Study that connect secondary and postsecondary education;
- articulated college credit with Maine’s postsecondary institutions;
- national industry certifications;
- academic content taught with hands-on application and relevance to the real world; and
- employability skills, technical preparation, work ethics, and safety training.
