General Supervision System Team (GSST) Monitoring

The Maine Department of Education is required under Federal legislation to monitor special programs and services for students with disabilities as described under Section 616 of the 2004 amendments to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.

Maine has established a Birth to Twenty (B-20) General Supervision System (GSST) based on the components of general supervision provided by the Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP). The B-20 GSST represents the model for supervision and technical assistance for the early intervention and special education programs of all School Administrative Units (SAUs)/Child Development Services (CDS) sites in Maine. The GSST will ensure that the State meets IDEA program requirements, with a particular emphasis on requirements closely related to improving educational results for children with disabilities.
