A chance to make a comment to the Department of Education

The Maine Advisory Council for the education of Children with Disabilities (MACECD) provides advice to the Commissioner of Education and provides a written report to the public, legislature and the public about the educational needs of children with disabilities.

The MACECD meets monthly, usually on the third Friday of most months in Augusta.  There are several methods to make your comments and concerns known.  The easiest manner for most citizens may be to visit the web site and use the "public comment" button on that web site.  The comments submitted using this method will be read at the next MACECD meeting and will be included on the MACECD minutes and will be posted on the MACECD website.

You may also arrange, in advance, to call into a MACECD meeting.  To do this please use the website public comment button and indicate that you would like to call into the meeting.  You will be contacted in advance to that we can arrnage for your comment at the appropriate time on the agenda.

The type of comments expected are information that informs the MACECD or the public that there may be a problem in the educational system that needs to be addressed.

Comments or questions about a specific child are not encouraged because of the child's own confidentiality and because MACECD is not a service or advocacy program and has no system for referring your concerns to help your child.  For concerns about a specific child please contact the Department of Education Due Process Office, the Disabilities Rights Center of Maine, the Office of Special Education in your school district or a parent or disability organization that is specific to your child's disability area.
