Augusta, Maine - The Maine Warden Service, working with Maine State Police, the Warden Forensic Mapping Team and a Warden k-9 Unit are continuing their investigation into two shooting incidents this afternoon: Mark Mattson, age 60, of Portsmouth, New Hampshire was shot in the stomach at approximately 2:30 PM by Travis Wood, age 29, of Windham Maine. Mr. Mattson was target practicing in the woods off Quaker Ridge Road, on the north end of Thomas Pond in Casco. He was approximately 300 yards from a logging road, practicing target shooting. Mr. Wood was hunting in the area with a hunting partner when he shot Mr. Mattson. Mr. Mattson was transported by LifeFlight to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston (note: not Maine Med, as originally reported) and is listed in critical condition. In the second incident, Steven Hutter, age 26, of Hebron was hunting with Linton Thompson, age 47, of Oxford near Mr. Thompson’s property at 316 Allen Hill Road in Oxford. After shooting and wounding a deer in a field near the property, Mr. Hutter and Mr. Thompson began tracking the wounded deer and Mr. Thompson shot Mr. Hutter in the lower leg. It was a single gun shot wound and Mr. Hutter is currently in surgery at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. Investigations into both shooting incidents are ongoing; no summonses or arrests have been made. |
