November 6, 2011 Madison Man Injured in ATV Crash Augusta, Maine - The Maine Warden Service reports that at 9:00 AM today on the ATV trail near Chase Pond in the town of Caratunk, Glenn Dow of Madison received several injuries after his Polaris ATV crashed. The ATV had a rear axle break allowing the right rear tire and shaft to come off the machine. Mr. Dow was travelling north with 3 riders on other ATVs. According to witnesses, they were travelling at about 30 mph on a sweeping right hand turn when the tire came off. Mr. Dow fell from the machine and ended up in a ditch after about 50 feet. He struck his head on a rock but was saved by his helmet. The ATV continued on for another 50 feet. Mr. Dow was transported to Bingham via ambulance and met LifeFlight, which flew him to EMMC. While his injuries are not considered life threatening, he has several broken ribs as well as injuries to his shoulder and knee. He was conscious throughout his rescue. The Maine Warden Service will conduct a closer investigation of the ATV, led by Maine Game Warden Rick Clowry. |
