As part of the Maine Management Service, we have designed new systems to recruit and select managers who have leadership skills. Integral to this new system is the competency-based interview. Its innovative approach is vastly different than traditional interviews. Competency-based interviews require skill and practice but, once mastered, produce more positive, more effective, and more fruitful interviews. What's more, managers are able to screen and select candidates that possess, not only the skills needed to do the job, but who also demonstrate leadership behaviors.
