region. The teams' function is to serve as a resource for expediting the workers' compensation claim process, and for ensuring that injured employees are provided immediate, continued support and information with respect to care, treatment, vocational rehabilitation service, and RTW opportunities in any agency operating in the region.

Transitional duty positions that are used for an employee's Occupational Plan provide only temporary employment, and must be reviewed on a mandatory basis at least every six (6) months. Extensions of the transitional duty positions beyond six (6) months will require justification based on one or more of the following conditions:
- The employee is not yet able to return to a full work week.
- The employee needs more job training to reach a specific job goal.
- The employee's injury or illness condition prevents a permanent employment action, but is anticipated that permanent work capacity will be reached in the future.
- The initial job goal was not realistic, as documented by Occupational Plan progress results, and has been modified.
- The job goal specified by the Occupational Plan cannot be accomplished or pursued further due to the temporary unavailability of a permanent or suitable position.
No transitional duty positions will extend beyond one (1) year unless approved by the Health & Benefits/Workers' Compensation Division. The centrally funded transitional duty positions will be administered by the Employee Health & Benefits/Workers' Compensation Division and monitored by the Workers' Compensation Case Managers and department designees.
