Health Insurance

The State of Maine pays a substantial amount for each individual employee's health insurance plan and a dental coverage plan: If your gross base income is less than $30,000.00 the State pays 100% of your individual health plan valued at $356.62 every two weeks. Should your base salary be $30,000 or greater you may be required to pay 5% or as much as 10% of your health costs. More information is available upon request. There are various other plans available to employees to cover the costs of health and dental insurance for their families; and the State shares those costs. Individual dental plan costs are paid for by the State. Family dental plans are available at a minimal cost to the employee.

Anthem Vision Plan

Employee pays a bi-weekly deduction of: $2.73

Employee and one Dependent:  $4.38

Family: $7.11

Life Insurance

Maine will pay for a basic life insurance policy for each of its employees valued at your base salary. Individual employees my buy additional coverage valued up to three time that amount. Prices vary based upon the employee's age.          

Dependent Life Insurance is also available at a minimum cost to the employee.

UNIONS

(note: you do not have to join a union. However, if you choose not to join a union you must pay a union fee. This is a condition of employment)

AFSCME       Dues / Agency Fee          $15.45 / $8.26

MSEA           Dues / Agency Fee         $18.20 / $9.62

Maine State Retirement System (Membership is required by State Statute)

AFSCME Employees contribute 1.15% of their gross salary and the State matches with 26.31%

MSEA Employees contribute 7.65% of their gross salary State matches 17.65 – 22.10% depending on job position

MEDICARE

All Employees contribute 1.45% of their gross pay.

VACATION TIME

Our employees earn the equivalent of one day per month, however Correctional Officers who work 12.333 hour shifts earn 8.633 hours per month

Vacation time increases by ¼ day each five years to a maximum of 17.244 hours with a maximum time accrual 240 hours

SICK TIME: 

Our employees earn the equivalent of one day per month, however Correctional Officers who work 12.333 hour shifts earn 8.633 hours per month. Depending on the bargaining unit, there are maximum time accruals.

HOLIDAY TIME:

Our employees receive 8 hours straight pay for each of 12 holidays. If you work on a holiday you receive the 8 hours at straight time and your working hours at 1.5 times the standard rate of pay.
