Windham, Maine

Every effort is made to honor the spiritual traditions of each prisoner. Prisoners requesting chaplaincy services are to fill out a request form and direct it to the chaplain’s office.  All worship  services have open attendance and are subject to change so please be mindful of announcements made to address these changes.

Monthly Notification of all services  is posted in the housing units. Additional programs such as concerts, special guest speakers, educational forums and films are posted as well.

Services Available

Bible Study classes and Native American Studies are available as scheduled. Sign Ups are coordinated

through the chaplain’s office. Each week a calendar of classes, times and locations is published. Sign ups for the class need to be made through the chaplain’s office.

Clergy Connections for prisoners who already have an established relationship with a worship community or would like to talk with a clergy person of a faith not already represented at MCC may ask for a visit by completing a request form.

Grief Counseling – Losing a family member or friend while incarcerated can be a very difficult experience. Chaplains are available for meeting with inmates. Periodically, grief support groups will meet for a specific period of time. Referrals to these groups may be made by staff and by self referral.

Healing and Reconciliation Services will be available at certain times in both the Episcopal and Roman Catholic Traditions and are open to all.

Pastoral Counseling and Spiritual Direction

Individuals who wish may request to meet with a chaplain for religious consultation, pastoral counseling and spiritual direction.

Religious Education Classes regarding forms of prayer, theological reflection, spiritual journaling, and other topics that will strengthen ones spiritual journey are offered periodically. Suggestions from prisoners are welcome and programs developed will reflect those needs.

Religious Items may be distributed from the chaplain’s office when we have access to them. Some acceptable religious articles are available through the commissary. Requests for religious items may be made but there is no guarantee that we will be able to meet the requests.
