OJJDP National Training and Technical Assistance
The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention
(OJJDP) provides national leadership, coordination, and resources
to those working to prevent and respond to juvenile delinquency
and victimization. A major component of these efforts is the
provision of training and technical assistance resources that
address the needs of juvenile justice practitioners and support
state and local efforts to build capacity and expand the use
of evidence-based practices.
To assist policymakers and practitioners in implementing
comprehensive community-wide initiatives that strengthen the
local juvenile justice system OJJDP has developed a network
of providers dedicated to delivering targeted training and
technical assistance.
- What is training and technical assistance?
- Training and technical assistance is the planning, development,
delivery, and evaluation of activities designed to achieve
specific learning objectives, resolve problems, and foster
the application of innovative approaches to juvenile delinquency
and victimization.
- What types of technical assistance are available?
- OJJDP and its network of providers offer assistance in many
areas, including:
- Problem identification and assessment.
- Strategic planning.
- Program enhancement and operations support.
- Sustainability planning.
- Evidence-based practice and model programming.
- Team building and collaboration.
- Community mapping and resource identification.
- Partnership development, team building, and community
collaboration.
- Staff development and retention.
- Information management.
- Performance measurement and program evaluation.

technical assistance services?
- OJJDP's training and technical assistance network stands
ready to respond to a broad range of requests in all areas
related to juvenile delinquency and victimization. Subject
areas include:
- Accountability-based sanctions and incentives and capacity
development.
- Adjudication and court management
- Child abuse and neglect.
- Commercial sexual exploitation of children.
- Corrections and detention facilities and compliance monitoring.
- Delinquency prevention.
- Disproportionate minority contact.
- Evidence-based practice and model programming.
- Exposure to and prevention of violence.
- Gang-involved youth.
- Gender specific programming.
- Internet safety.
- Juvenile justice system improvement.

- How is training and technical assistance provided?
- OJJDP's network of training and technical assistance providers
offer an array of services, including:
- Short-term and moderate technical assistance (offsite
assistance via telephone, e-mail, Internet, distance learning,
etc.).
- Long-term and extensive technical assistance (onsite
assistance including problem assessment, mentoring, capacity
building, evaluation, etc).
- Peer-to-peer information exchange.
- Publication drafting and dissemination.
- Speaker assistance, subject matter expert deployment.
- Travel scholarships.
- Product review and program assessment.
- Information sharing and communication enhancement.
- Training development to include agenda and curriculum
development, speaker identification, and logistical support.
- Who is eligible for technical assistance?
- Any state, tribe, unit of local government or organization
supporting the justice system's response to juvenile delinquency
and victimization is eligible to receive technical assistance
from OJJDP.
- While OJJDP may not have funding to support every request
received, our agency has a host of resources that can benefit
the field. OJJDP will review and respond to every request
for training and technical assistance that it receives and
facilitate assistance through a variety of means including
financial assistance, information dissemination, coordination
and collaboration, and referral.
