The metrology laboratory provides accredited calibration services in mass echelon II and III, and volume echelon I and II. Primary standards are calibrated periodically by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and remain traceable to NIST through internal surveillance and external comparisons. The laboratory is recognized by NIST, Office of Weights and Measures (OWM). The laboratory quality system is based on ISO/IEC 17025, thereby meeting the requirements of ISO 9000, QS 9000, ANSI/NCSL Z540-1, military standards, and other national and international legal metrology requirements. The highest standards of measurement are transferred from State government to business and industry as well as other state agencies. These services are required by public and private sectors, such as the Departments of Public Safety and Transportation, Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, and by private companies providing services to high tech industries across a broad spectrum.

Calibration data and Laboratory records are within the public domain. When required by law to release confidential information, the customer or individual concerned will be notified of the information provided.
