Maine Office of Cannabis Policy Issues Health and Safety Recall for Pre-ground Flower, Pre-rolls, and Blunts Produced by Nova Farms

The affected adult use cannabis products were sold at 14 adult use retail stores across Maine between September 17, 2024, and October 8, 2024

AUGUSTA, Maine – As part of an ongoing investigation, the Maine Office of Cannabis Policy (OCP) is today issuing a health and safety recall for pre-ground adult use cannabis flower, pre-rolls, and blunts produced by Nova Farms, all of the strain “Frosted Cookies.” The products were sold at 14 adult use retail stores located in Brunswick, Columbia, Greenville Junction, Lebanon, Lisbon, Mechanic Falls, Medway, Newport, Portland, Presque Isle, South Portland, and Turner.

Pursuant to an investigation into data irregularities between mandatory test results reported to OCP and subsequent audit testing conducted by the Office, the products are being recalled due to failure of Microbials (aerobic bacteria and Enterobacteriaceae) and Yeast and Mold.

Inhaling cannabis containing unsafe levels of microbials and/or mold can lead to sinus issues, allergies, headaches, dizziness, flu-like symptoms, or fatigue. Consumers who purchased these products should return them to the retailer or dispose of them. Any consumer who has ingested these products and is experiencing symptoms or adverse reactions should contact their physician immediately.

All adult use cannabis is required to have a label affixed to the package that indicates the product’s batch number. Consumers should check the label of their pre-ground flower, pre-rolls, or blunts for the batch numbers listed below under “Product Information”.

Additional information about this recall is available at https://www.maine.gov/dafs/ocp/recalls/nova-farms-10-2024.

This recall is a result of routine compliance checks that allowed the Office to identify the audit testing irregularity and begin its investigation, including taking and testing samples from affected batches. The information contained in the State’s cannabis inventory tracking system allowed OCP to put an administrative hold on items throughout its investigation and ensure potentially contaminated cannabis was identified, isolated, and removed from store shelves. OCP’s investigation into the cause and scope of this contamination is ongoing.
