Redevelopment Response Team

abandoned mill building

The Maine Department of Economic and Community Development has identified a 'Response Team' to assist Maine communities that are actively working to redevelop unoccupied buildings. DECD will help facilitate these redevelopment efforts by bringing the right people and resources to the table.

The redevelopment of unoccupied mills and other large buildings is, in most cases, a complex process, involving years of careful planning and deep resources. Legislation passed in the 125th aims to remove some of the obstacles to a successful redevelopment project by identifying and eliminating regulatory hurdles and determining available financial resources. The Maine Department of Economic and Community Development, along with the Maine Department of Environmental Protection, Maine State Housing Authority and the Finance Authority of Maine are all available to assist municipalities upon request. The 'Response Team' brings many of the necessary parties together to help municipalities execute an action plan for the redevelopment of a large unoccupied building.
