This funding is available through the Maine Clean Diesel Program. This is a State program available to Maine commercial fishing, lobster, mail boats, small ferries and excursion boats.

Eligibility
- Only diesel engines currently in use and are not scheduled for rebuild or repowering over the next twelve months are eligible
- Gasoline engines are not eligible
- Damaged engines or engines not reliable are not eligible
- Fuel usage must be documented by fuel receipts or listed in a table and submitted with application
New Engines
- Horsepower may be increased up to 20%
- New engine estimate from dealer/boatyard must be submitted with application
- Grant covers 50% cost of engine and installation of engine and any related emission components
- Work can be done at a certified dealer/boatyard of your choice
Existing Engines
- Old engine must be destroyed or returned to engine manufacturer
- Certification that the engine was returned to manufacturer or photo of disabled engine with drill hole through engine block and manifold are required
Grant Process
- Applicants will learn their status late November
- Grant awardees will submit a letter of credit showing ability to pay
- Work must be done and grant awarded by September 2010
- Selection based on calculation of cost and benefits; 2 stroke engines with high fuel use are the dirtiest and will be funded first
- Extra points given to boats carrying passengers that maximize public health benefits
- Extra point given to projects in areas exceeding air quality standards
