Getting Started - ArcMap

Concepts
   ArcMap
   toolbars

ArcMap is the basic application used for GIS at MEDEP.  It is the application where all maps are made, and where most spatial analyses are run.  This section shows the basic ArcMap interface and toolbars, and defines what they are used for.

Toolbars
ArcMap has many toolbars (perhaps too many?).  You can turn them on and off by going to the 'View' menu - 'Toolbars' and checking it on or off:
view toolbars menu

Or you can right-click any toolbars to get the same list and turn toolbars on/off:

Typically, the minimum toolbars you should have turned 'on' are:
Draw
Main Menu
Standard
Tools

Many of the other toolbars have very specific functions and you may find that you never use many of them.
