Stormwater ERP
The Maine Department of Environmental Protection and the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection have jointly been awarded the 2007 State Innovation Grant to conduct a Stormwater Environmental Results Program (ERP) pilot project. This project is the first in the nation to address water quality issues with ERP’s innovative approach. Maine and Massachusetts will utilize cutting-edge technologies to help solve water quality problems in targeted watersheds within each state. The ERP will focus on drive-thru businesses and strip malls in impaired or soon to be designated impaired watersheds as those businesses are known for having above average stormwater pollutant runoff from their parking lots.
Project Goals:
- Increase public, business and municipality awareness of stormwater pollution and pollution prevention benefits
- Increase the number of businesses implementing stormwater best management practices to reduce pollutant runoff
- Improve water quality through reduction of pollutant runoff from parking lots
- Increase watershed quality
