Application for Determination of Public Benefit

This application is for a Determination of Public Benefit for a new secure landfill to be located in either Argyle or Greenbush, Maine. Under State statute, prior to the submission of an application for the license needed to build a new disposal facility, DEP must first make a determination that the proposal provides a substantial public benefit.

Maine Law was revised in 2011 to clarify the opportunities for public comment on this type of application. Here are the ways in which you may participate in the process:

• Written comments will be accepted throughout the processing of the application.
• The Commissioner will hold a public meeting, in the Argyle and Greenbush area, to take public comments. (People interested in the application do not need to request a public meeting.)
• All comments submitted, either in writing or at the public meeting, will be considered in making the determination.

Written comments may be sent to Karen Knuuti, project analyst for the application, either by mail or electronically.
