Description of Services: Families Matter’s Personal Social Awareness Program (PSAP) provides services to special needs adults who have been diagnosed with mild to moderate mental retardation and/or physical needs. The PSAP focuses on providing its consumers with community based activities with the goal of increasing their social skills and awareness. Thanks to our friends at the United-Way, FMI is fortunate to provide a number of broad-based services, identified within their Person-Centered Plan. Services are broadly based and include but not limited to:
- Community socialization skills
- Therapeutic horseback riding, bowling, and swimming
- Shopping excursions
- Nutritional planning and meal preparation
- Special Olympics
- Personal hygiene and grooming skills
- Physical exercise activities as appropriate
- Letter writing and money handling management
FMI’s PSAP works closely with each consumer's case manager, and their families to identify and address their individual needs. Yearly or as needed, the program staff meets with each of the consumers, guardians, and case managers to review consumer’s progress, achievements and to discuss future goals and objectives.
FMI’s PSAP currently operates in two locations: Waterville
and Augusta. The programs operate five days a week Monday-Friday
for four hours a day 10:00am to 2:00pm with a consumer to staff
ratio of approximately 4:1
