District Characteristics
  • 164,765 people (Census 2006 est.). 22.4 persons per square mile (Census 2006 est.)
  • 2 county governments: Piscataquis and Penobscot Counties
  • 60 municipalities (incorporated local governments) incl. a city, towns plantations (unincorporated townships are a recognized part of the District. A TWP is officially served by the Maine CDC and may be served by the local health officer of an adjacent town.)
  • One Tribal Nation: Penobscot Nation, Indian Island

Note: Healthy Communities of Sebasticook Valley, based in Pittsfield (Central District) has State contract approval for service delivery to 6 towns in Penquis District; they collaborate closely with Penquis District and Bangor HMP leaders.
