Maine doesn't have statutory authority to restrict employment beyond the
recent change in legislation regarding checking the CNA registry. Nor can
we "pull" a certificate. We are thinking about these things at the moment,
however.

If a CRMA makes an egregious error, is disciplined by the agency or
consulting RN, makes the error again, (or perhaps even a more careless or
egregious error), or perhaps even has their employment terminated, should
the CRMA lose their certification? If the answer is yes, who do we contact
about this? Is it DHHS or the Maine State Board of Nursing? Is it time for
a registry for CRMA's? Where will these annotations be recorded?

So therefore, according to the MSBN we should not allow the CRMA's to give
Coumadin, Plavix, or other such drugs that have severe side effects. WHEN
DOES THIS END???
What this dialogue sounds like to me is that there are some of us who feel
that it is ok to teach family members to administer these very dangerous
drugs and even chemotherapy in the home after a Home Health RN has given
them a brief and simple explanation, people who, for the most part, have no
education whatsoever in medication administration, but the people who have
the education and training cannot do the same in the person's home. I must
also ask, where is it written in the MSBN practice act that they govern what
CRMA's can and cannot do?
