Carol
I would like to forward my suggestions for changes to the
recertification curriculum exams. I have the following suggestions:

    1. Please make a database of questions that instructors could pull
from like that which was available for the other curriculums.

    2. The following are concerns and suggestions for specific exam
questions:
                a. Exam #1 question 14, Exam #2 question 20, and Exam
#3 question 28- I do not like these fill in the blank type questions as
they are too obscure and
                        confusing.
                b. Exam #1 question 21, and Exam #3 question 11-
Different facilities may not use red ink to bracket orders. Some
facilities do not allow the use of red
ink at all, so these questions should be
eliminated as the CRMA should follow the facility policy. (Same concern
with Exam #4 question 10)
                c. Exam #1 question 25 and Exam #3 question 16- I am
uncomfortable with this question as the truly correct administration of
Nitroglycerin would
depend on how the physician orders it. Perhaps
this could be changed to ask the CRMA where to place the medication
correctly, not how often
                         to administer it.
                d. Exam #2 question 8 and Exam #4 question 13- Again, I
really think these fill in the blank questions are too obscure, and
would like to see the
question reformatted to a true/false or multiple
choice.
                e. Exam #2 question 23 and Exam #3 question 30- If this
is answered correctly and according to the answer key, it would read
like this:
"Whenever orders are discontinued you must
remove the medication from the cabinet/cart until return of the resident
or reordered by the
physician." I believe the word "resident" in
the question should read "medication". I think a better option would be
to change the question to an
open ended one like: What are the proper
steps to take when a medication is discontinued? (answer: yellow out
and document on MAR,
remove from current supply until returned or
discarded.)

        3. Here are some examples of questions I would like to see as
they would help assess decision making skills of the CRMA:
                    a. Give 2 examples of an emergency situation and
what you would do in response.
                    b. You receive a new order from the physician and
are unsure if you are reading the order correctly, what might you do?

        4. I had already forwarded suggestions on changing the
measurement questions to real life situations-hopefully you still have
that? If not, I will forward
it again as I think they would benefit the CRMA more than
the the ones currently on the exam which are exceptionally confusing and
quite frankly not the
job of the CRMA. I would hope they would call the
pharmacist for any drug conversion questions. I would still like to see
the questions on Drams
eliminated also the one on drops per ml.

Thank You -
Cyndi Ranco, RN

        Hi Instructors:

I believe we have now competed all the changes that are going to
be made on forms based on feedback and consideration of everyones
comments. Thank You.

Our next objective after Forms is the Recertification curriculum
exams.

Please submit all ideas, ie. sample questions, comments,
corrections, and changes that you would like to see to me. I would like
to give everyone at least a month to respond, 12/19/05, for there are
over 100 of you. Some of you have already responded and I have put these
e-mails all together for review.

If you would prefer to discuss your ideas you may call Peter
Mauro at 287-9254 or myself at 287-9261.

Looking forward to hearing from you. Have a nice turkey day next
week.
