Instructors, LPN's cannot be used to sign off medication passes for
CRMAs or teach skills for PSSs.
The Board of Nursing Title 32 says the Practical Nurse may "...reinforce
patient and family teaching program through health teaching, health
counseling and provision of supportive and restorative care, under the
direction of a registered nurse or licensed or otherwise legally
authorized physician, podiatrist or dentist." An RN may do the initial
training a approval as a competent CRMA or PSS in a training program.
For example, the LPN does the reinforcement and reporting of errors by
the CRMA to the RN if errors occur or if the student has further
questions as a new CRMA reinforces information.
CRMAs can do medication passes for the 3 Day or 24 hour CRMA course
because they are not under the Board of Nursing for regulation.
