Daryl,
As a matter of "Nursing Standard" the appropriate technique is to Pour Pass
and Document. In a legal environment you cannot document until the service has
been provided as it is considered to be fraudulent. As an instructor of
Nursing Students, M.A.'s, CNA-M's and other paraprofessionals, I teach them to
document according to legal parameters so as to maintain ethics and
professionalism. Because some instructors have taught the PDA method, I have to correct
this in the Bridge/Refresher course and as it is not part of the curriculum I
teach the appropriate method. Standing on the statement that says follow your
facility policy does not relieve us as instructors to vary the curriculum as we
see fit. Facility policies are not learned or taught in the classroom.
