Betsy,

I sure hope that I am not the Donnie you are referring to in your email..
Auburn Residential Care Center and myself were asked to do the pilot class by
the Department, which we did willingly. The Department was extremely
gracious about the lattitude give for the presentation of the material. The
students in the Pilot fully enjoyed the Recert and did exceptionally well. As for
the committee you continually refer to, I do not have a clue where this comes
from. It is my understanding that Peter put together the components of the
recert from the input of the people who were present at the meeting in
October along with written comment from those who could not be there, including
myself.

There were many changes made after the pilot to the Curriculum at the
suggestion of the students in the pilot class which consisted of CRMA's from Auburn
Residential Care Center and an invited guest from Support Solutions who is a
CRMA and participated in the pilot class. They left the class with very
positive comments and felt that they had received a great deal of information
from the class. In sharing some of the comments from the recent discussions
with them, they reiterated that the class content was GREAT and that THEY
WOULD NOT WANT TO SEE IT CHANGED AS IT WAS VERY PERTINENT TO WHAT THEY DO. They
were very frightened over the transcription exercise and the mock med pass
but knew to use their peers for assistance and double checking their work as
they were taught.

I still don't understand why nothing was put out on the list serve by
instructors who have/had concerns about the presentation and just dove into it. We
as nurses are taught many things that we do not use on a regular basis but
are expected to know as a standard of practice. Just because we don't work
with pediatric residents or consumers doesn't mean that as a nurse we shouldn't
know how to take care of them. We are taught this and may never use it.
That is the major focus of Standardized Curriculums. Everyone gets taught the
same because they may not always be working in their present job. Just
because you don't do something in one place doesn't mean when you move on you are
not going to have to do it.

On another note, if I am the Donnie you are referring to, DO NOT EVER CALL
ME DONNIE! MY NAME IS DON OR DONALD!!! YOU HAVE NEVER BEEN GIVEN PERMISSION
TO CALL ME ANYTHING ELSE!

Respectfully,

Donald C. Johnson

PS is there anyone out there who for this competency based curriculum
or is it believed by all that we should spoon feed the CRMA?
