Some providers are asking the same question that Ham Robbins has in this
email. As we are all aware the waiver for the 40-hour CRMA curriculum ends
on July 1, 2006.
Ham, I think its a great idea to do some planning.
First, a person with a 3-day certificate doesn't actually have to take a
Bridge course unless they want to upgrade to a 40-hour certificate and work
in a setting which requires the 40-hour certificate. If you have folks who
do want to upgrade, I see no reason why you can't start the process anytime.
As an aside: Carol and I are seeing folks who never took the bridge course
between September 1, 2003 and August 31, 2004, per Assisted Housing
regulations, trying to get into the re-cert course and I am concerned that
those same folks will attempt to enter this Bridge course, so the
instructors would need to be very careful that these folks are entitled to
take the bridge course.
We have issued 887 3-day certificates to date compared to 3, 858 40-hour
certificates.
I have outlined below how I think the process could be done if folks want to
upgrade to the 40-hour certificate:
1. Instructors need to verify that the student has a 3-day certificate (one
issued after the waiver date of Dec. '03).
2. Once the certificate is verified and the student passed that phase, then
the students would attend the Bridge course.
3. Upon completion of the Bridge the student would then complete the number
of med passes with an RN as stated on the certificate. Each one is
different. Some need all six, some need only three, and some don't need
any.
4. The paperwork process would be very similar as a regular class with an
additional piece.
5. After the Bridge course, submit: Training Validation Form, Student
Identification form, copy of current 3-day certificate (this will alert us
as to the number of med passes to expect), copy of exam used, and course
evaluations.
After the student completes the med passes, have student mail clinical form
back to instructor (as they do now with regular CRMA course). Instructor
then submits second Training Validation Form with copy of clinical med pass
attached (as they do now with regular CRMA course).
6. Department will issue full 40-hour certificate. Students 2-year cycle
will start with the new date of clinical passes on new 40-hour certificate.
Any questions on the procedure, please don't hesitate to contact either
myself or Carol Davis.
Thank you

Peter,
We are making our 2006 training calendar now.
If the planned return to 40 hour CRMA classes for all happens on
7/1/06, by what date will all of the waivered 24 hour CRMA's have to
complete the Bridge/Upgrade?
Thanks,
Ham
