HI Instructors, Just to touch base. I would like feedback so far in the
following areas:

1. Reduced paperwork requirements ie. no exam is required to be sent
in, no roster is required as long as the students names are listed on the
validation form, no trainer form is required unless changes have occured or
no RN license unless a renewal period.
2. Peter Mauro and I met on 10/20/05 and reviewed all the areas
commented on at the CRMA recertification for instructors with regard to
forms. Peter has made changes to the forms after consideration of all
instructors comments. Please go to the CRMA curriculum site and review all
the CRMA curriculum forms, not curriculum.
3. After another review of the 8 hour recertification curriculum, a
decision was made that the Instructor Manual may be given out as a student
manual, without Section 2, as this is a graded testing portion of the
curriculum. The instructor may charge a fee for this manual if the student
keeps it or the instructor may have manuals to reuse at each class.
4. Instructors must put a fee on the notification forms sent into the
department, as it is an expectation that all class be available to the
public at large. If you class does not contain the maximum student
requirement of 15 for the recert and bridge, and 12 for the 40 hour and you
have open slots then note these open slots on the notification form. Again,
notification forms must arrive 30 days in advance of the class if the class
is not full so that the public have an opportunity to call and get into the
class. We have had instance of students calling and being declined when
classes are not full and enrollment includes only agency employees. If you
are instructing for your agency and your agency does not want the liability
of observing those students medication passes, you may inform the student
that you provide the training only. It is the student's responsibility to
find a location for getting those medication passes completed.
5. It has come to our attention that some students are not passing the
recertification class but their certificates have not expired yet. We have
no procedure or policy to deal with this issue, therefore, the student may
pass medications until the current certificate expires. It may be wise as an
instructor that you inform the agency or provider that sent the student of
the student's failure to pass the course. This gives the provider the
opportunity to take the necessary facility medication policy procedures for
corrective action for safety of the residents.
6. The CRMA Train the Trainer for new instructors will be coming in
December 2005, if you have new instructors that are interested, please
contact peter.mauro@maine.gov <mailto:peter.mauro@maine.gov>
7. We have 118 CRMA instructors with 15 of those currently inactive at
this time.
8. After you have provided Peter and myself with you comments thus far,
we will begin working on the curriculums. If possible could forms and
comments be provided to us no later than November 14, 2005.
