IPRS Setup Instructions
IPRS (Internetwork Protocol Routing Service) is software that will replace what you are currently using to connect to the State of Maine's WAN (Wide Area Network). After you have successfully installed the software, you should see little difference in what "happens" when you connect. (i.e. you will still get the screens asking you to enter your userid, then your PIN and passcode.)

You will, however, be connecting via a statewide toll-free number (which number you select will be determined by whether you are serviced by the major phone service provider - i.e. Verizon, or one of the smaller providers in the state.) You will also be connecting to a much larger pool of modems, such that availability should not be an issue.

The installation process required that you "uninstall" your current Shiva software before installing the IPRS software. Directions for both are below. If you have any difficulty in doing this, contact David Perkins by page at 758-2341. You may also get help from Jason Skeffington with Goold.

  • It is recommended that you print out these instructions prior to proceeding.
  • It would also be a good idea to fully synchronize and complete your up and downloading activities before you start, in the event you have any difficulty.
1 A The first step in the installation process is to "un-install" Shiva 5.0 and/or the Shiva Security Pack software. If you click on the "Start" button, and select "Programs" and you see in the listing of programs the following: Shiva is installed that would indicate that you have Shiva 5.0 installed.
You can also tell that Shiva 5.0 is installed if when you click on the icon to connect to the State, at the top of the connection screen, it says "Shiva 5.0".
If you do have ShivaRemote installed, click on the "Start" Button, select "Run" and type:
c:\Program Files\ShivaRemote\uninst.exe
(see graphic to right) and then click on the "OK" button. The Shiva uninstall routine will follow. It will likely ask you to reboot following the uninstall. Do so.
Uninstall
B You should then check to see if you have the Shiva "Security Pack" installed. (If you do not have Shiva 5.0 installed, you probably have the Shiva Security Pack installed). If you do, if you click on "Start" and then "Programs", you should see the following folder:
If you do, you need to click on the "Start" button, select "Settings", then "Control Panel" and then double-click on the "Add/Remove Programs" icon.
Add/Remove
Control Panel
When the "Add/Remove Programs" window opens, click on the "Windows Setup" tab You may need to scroll down to locate the "Shiva Security Pack" entry. "Un-Check" the checkbox to the left of "Shiva Security Pack" and then click on "OK".

You may be asked to reboot after you un-install the Shiva Security Pack. Do so.

2 Installing IPRS
The first step in installing IPRS is to download and run the executable that will copy the IPRS software on to your system.
Click Here to download the IPRS software.
Select "Open" or "Run"

You will get a "Security Warning" asking you to confirm that you want to install and run the file. Say "Yes"
It will ask you if you want to unzip the files to c:\program files\iprs Click on "Unzip" You may then close out of the unzip dialog. Select "Continue" or "Next" at each step. When you are finished, you should have an IPRS icon on your desktop

You may be asked to create an "iprs" dial-up networking session. If so, follow the instructions listed here

3 Running IPRS
Once you have successfully installed IPRS, you can double click on the IPRS Icon on your desktop. When you do so, you should get the following window: (the actual numbers displayed will be different.) Typically you would select the 500 number if you are located in a Verizon service area, and the other number if you are in one of the smaller phone company service areas. (The smaller companies do not support 500 toll free numbers)
You will then get a window similar to the one you got in the past, asking you to input your ID
After you enter your userid, you will be prompted to enter your PIN and passcode from your SecureID card.
Assuming you have entered your ID and passcode successfully, you should get the following screen briefly appear:

You may now connect to MeCare, the Web, mail, etc.
