Hey,
Just so you all know, for some reason when you hit reply to e-mails that
were sent to everyone (such as this), I believe you end up only responding
to the initial sender (in this case me!). I have e-mailed Carol about this,
but in the meantime make sure the "TO" box is addressed to
Beas-PSS@lists.state.me.us. That way we all get your responses.
If you are all receiving these posts, my apologies at burdening you with
more e-mail! I have pasted in the responses to the Body Systems - awesome
suggestions on how others are doing this:
RESPONSE ONE: Tom & Betty [ebrown02@maine.rr.com] Hi Scot - I asked each
of the students to do a presentation on one of the systems lasting about 10
- 15 minutes each student. They got pretty creative with posters -
handouts, etc. It made it much easier to tolerate all that information since
it was coming from all different voices, ideas, and peers. They got to
choose their system and then I gave them 4 weeks to prepare. We did these
presentations the last day just before the final exam.
RESPONSE TWO: Great idea, Scott. We are teaching the content in a complete
class and devoting the whole class to it. Students really enjoy learning
more about this content, so we haven't had any problems. I think this would
be great to discuss the PSS because the BEAS is very busy right now through
July and at this time does not plan to have a meeting to review the PSS.
One of our questions was whether we (Saco River Education) had to use their
test bank for all quiz questions. I talked with Lorraine Lachappelle, BEAS,
about this and she said that was the expectation. She suggested that if we
had good questions that we would like to suggest that we could send them to
her and she would review them and send them out to providers.

RESPONSE THREE: My students are doing ok with the list, but are asking
questions about it. So I have them choose a couple for each class and bring
what they have learned to the next class. They are enjoying being able to
do the choosing. By end of the last class we have covered all of them.

RESPONSE FOUR: I integrate body systems throughout curriculum as it
pertains to subject. I try to remember that it is too much information and
they will not remember all but always know as a PSS "give it back to who
owns it" refer to MD, RN, homecare RN, family. Ask for help to figure
problems out.
Keep ideas coming!
