Hi Fellow PSS Instructors,
In my quest to get creative with the curriculum (if I can find a fun way to
present an un-fun topic), I have come up with a few things in Module 11
(IADLs), and was wondering how other people present this module. For
example:
1. For the shopping section, I have given people a list of grocery items
(such as ice cream), and send them to the local supermarket to get
information on the least expensive unit price, as well as to list
alternatives for people on therapeutic diets (such as low/no salt, diabetic,
low-fat). I also give them some "fake coupons" (to decide if they're a good
deal or not) and tell them to use the store's circular.
2. For the Money Management section, I have come up with some fake receipts
and deposits (on a worksheet), and then have created a "money log" to fill
out based upon those receipts and deposits. This helps me ascertain whether
they are getting the seriousness of handling money, and all the issues that
can create.
3. Finally, I have people come up with a housekeeping plan based on the
days of the week (similar to the textbook, but they do it on their own), and
then hand out a sample that I created which is very detailed
Anyhow, there are some of my wacky ideas - I would be happy to provide
copies of any of these if you're interested in using them or seeing them.
They definitely break up the day a little more.
Now that I've shared mine, what ideas are you all using for this particular
module?
