Presumptive Eligibility Online Training and Certification

Welcome to the online training program for Presumptive Eligibility!

Presumptive Eligibility (“PE”) is short-term Medicaid coverage for individuals within certain eligibility categories. To become a qualified representative with the ability to determine eligibility on behalf of the provider, the representative must complete the online training course and pass a Knowledge Test. The handbooks have been updated with 2024 FPL figures. 

Online Training and Certification

The following schedule is designed for the online training series covering Maine’s Presumptive Eligibility (PE) program.

1. Basic Overview

Topics: Basic overview, becoming a qualified provider, covered services, the PE period

2. General Requirements

Topics: Coverage categories, non-financial requirements, financial requirements

3. The Application

Topics: Using the PE-Application and PE-Worksheet

4. Determining Eligibility

Topics: Household size, household income, determining eligibility

  • Read Provider Handbook pages 9 – 14 (up to “Noticing”)
  • Review the following tools available in the Provider Handbook: PE Checklist (page 19), Quick Guide to Income Eligibility (page 20), Online Portal Guide (page 22)

7. Certification

Complete the Knowledge Test (Microsoft Form) to become certified. You will receive an email after you submit the test.  You will also get a link to see your score.  If you score an 8 or better, you are free to start making PE Decisions.  If you score a 7 or below, you must not make PE Decisions.
