Aquaculture Lease Inventory
There are aquaculture sites located from Kittery to Eastport. Aquaculturalists in Maine are small part-time growers, full-time farmers working for themselves, as well as large companies with many employees, lease sites, and processing facilities.
As of
March 3, 2011
there are 77 molluscan shellfish leases (including experimental leases), totaling 610 acres, 1 experimental seaweed lease (0.86 acres), 3 green sea urchin leases (8 acres total) and 26 finfish leases (620 acres total) located in marine and estuarine waters along the Maine coast.
