In 1996
Governor King initiated an Executive Order to establish a Maine Recreational
Marine Fisheries Advisory Council. The purpose of this advisory council is to
advise the Commissioner of the DMR on issues pertaining to recreational marine
fisheries including, but not limited to, the needs and priorities of the
recreational sector, conservation measures, improvement of communications
between recreational and commercial fisheries interests and programs to
enhance the status of marine recreational species. The Order goes on to say
the Council will be made up of ten members, nine from the recreational sector
and one commercial representative to be appointed by the Commissioner. This
Council should reflect diversity in geographical residence and species of
interest.
The
following are members as of February, 2004: Mr. Gerald Rideout, Capt. Dave
Pecci, Capt. Cal Robinson, Capt. Tim Tower, Capt. Robin Thayer and Capt. Tom
Carter. Three other positions are currently vacant
