Closure of Atlantic Herring Area 1B October 1 and Area 3 October 3, 2011

The directed fishery for Atlantic herring is closed in Area 1 B as of 0001 hours, October 1, 2011, and in Area 3 as of 0001 hours, October 3, 2011. Vessels issued Federal Atlantic herring permits may not fish for, catch, possess or land more than 2,000 lb of herring from Area 1B beginning October 1,2011, or from Area 3 beginning October 3, 2011, per trip or calendar day until December 31,2011.

Federally permitted dealers may not purchase more than 2,000 lb of herring per vessel harvested from Area 1 B from 0001 hours, October 1,2011, or from Area 3 from 0001 hours, October 3, 2011, per trip or calendar day until the start of the 2012 fishing year on January 1,2012..

Vessels may transit or land Atlantic herring in Areas I B and 3 with more than 2,000 lb of Atlantic herring on board, as long as Atlantic herring were not caught in Areas IB or 3, and all fishing gear aboard is stowed and not available for immediate use. On January 1, 2012, the quotas for Areas 1 Band 3 for the 2012 Atlantic herring fishing year will become available, and the directed fishery will re-open.
