Maine Shrimp Fishery Effort Reduction Provision for Time of Day
Effective January 6, 2012, 00:01

DMR extends fishing time by two hours.

January 5, 2011: In accordance with the Northern shrimp fishing season and effort adjustment provisions established in Chapter 45.05(1)(A)(2)(a) and based on sampling data collected to date that show the catch per unit of effort is lower than expected for the start of the season, the Acting Commissioner is implementing an adjustment to the effort control measures by restricting the time of day allowed to harvest shrimp. It is the intent of the DMR to monitor landings on January 6th and the week of January 9th and, if warranted, further adjustments in time will be made as soon as possible.

Effective 00:01 January 6, 2012, until further notice, is unlawful for any person or vessel fishing with nets to fish for or take any Northern Shrimp (Pandalus borealis) except from ½ hour prior to sunrise and 15:00 hours (3:00 pm) on open fishing days.

Please monitor the DMR website (http://www.maine.gov/dmr) for additional changes to the Northern Shrimp fishery as it progresses.
