forest. The trails will be used for educational purposes,

campus through tree planting and maintenance. Funding will
be used to remove 5 large trees, replant 5 trees, and prune

plans to work with a professional forester to develop sustainable
multiple use management plans for eight key parcels. The
planning process and subsequent harvesting will offer many
opportunities to educate the community about forest management.

teachers and students from four towns to plant seedlings,
and care for them as part of a long-term forestry education
program. When trees become mature, students will harvest
and sell the trees with profits going back into the program.

Create a
comprehensive 5-year plan, including tree planting, maintenance,
and replacement needs of Orono's community trees. The plan
will address the long-term goals of the Orono Tree Board.

the appearance of the highly visible southwestern approach
to the City of Rockland on US Route 1 by planting and maintaining
trees. Additionally, the Rockland Parks Commission will set
up a nursery for young trees on city property.

involves the creation of a native tree arboretum in a highly
urban environment for the purposes of public education. The
project will also evaluate the tolerance of native tree species
to the environmental stresses associated with urban landscapes.

on route 1 and 109, propose to reintroduce elm trees in the
community as part of the towns central area development plan.

Portland's
Bayside community forestry improvement project will inventory
existing trees and potential planting sites. The project
will also develop plans for future tree planting and incorporate
these plans into the existing neighborhood revitalization
plan.

Tree Board

The Lewiston/Auburn
Community Forestry Board will work with each city's planning
department to choose two areas in the inner city that are
in need of tree planting enhancement. The board will also
offer a shared cost tree planting program for homeowners
in the older sections of the twin cities.
