Figure 10. This overview provides a perspective on fracturing in the granite. Most of the fractures are nearly horizontal but there are a few nearly vertical fractures as well. Fractures like these are the major conduits for groundwater flow in the state. A driller drills a well until a fracture is intersected that provides water to the well.
