Figure 4. Graded bedding in quartzite. The uppermost thick quartzite bed has a very sharp base, then grades upward to finer grained materials, and finally into mica. Note that due to metamorphic processes, the mica crystals in the tops of beds are actually quite coarse. Field of view is 50 centimeters top to bottom.
