Figure 4. Another antique photograph of Willard Beach from the southwest end looking northeast toward Spring Point. Notice how several buildings are built on posts directly over sand that slopes down toward the beach. This grade is probably a result of wave action across the sand surface. These structures could have been better protected if the dunes had been allowed to grow dune grass and trap sand. A higher dune would have limited the inland reach of storm waves.
