Figure 9. The Morse River has two channels that pass along West Beach at Popham Beach State Park. The larger, dominant channel is in the left foreground. The minor channel flows from the fork in the water to the right. A large sand bar separates the two during the lower stages of the tides (center background). Along the bank of the Morse River (foreground), tidal currents and wave action expose and erode old salt marsh peat which then falls as blocks into the river. MGS file photo by S. M.
