Due to vandalism and indiscriminant use of the old structures
at the Eagle Lake end of the tramway,
the Seven Islands Land Company (owners of the property) and
the Maine Forest Service (who leased the area) agreed to burn
the structures down. At the time, the locomotive shed
was leased by Irving Pulp and Paper, but through a miscommunication,
the ranger who set the fires was told to burn "everything."
Taken June 11, 1969, this photos shows the destruction of
a well-house.
