This material represents a continuing collaborative effort between the Wabanaki nations, Indigenous and non-Indigenous educators, districts, and other organizations. We extend our respect and gratitude to the many Indigenous people and their ancestors whose rich histories and vibrant communities include the Abenaki, Wolastoqiyik (Maliseet), Mi’kmaq, Peskotomuhkatiyik (Passamaquoddy),  Panawahpskek (Penobscot), and all of the Indigenous communities who have lived here for thousands of generations in what is known today as Maine, New England, and the Canadian Maritimes. The Department of Education is honored to collaborate with the Wabanaki as they share their stories.
