Letter of Notification


The following was the letter that was sent to Maine Special Purpose Private School directors notifying them of the inclusion of their program in the 2013-14 monitoring cohort.

Dear Program Director:

The Maine DOE is required under federal law to monitor special education programs and services for students with disabilities as described under Section 616 of the 2004 Amendments to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).


The purpose of this letter is to inform you that your Special Purpose Private School (SPPS) will be reviewed as part of the General Supervision System for the 2013-14 school year (FY14). As part of the process, you are requested to participate in a teleconference training on Oct. 16, 2013 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.. The teleconference will include information pertaining to the materials to be submitted to the Maine DOE, as well as information regarding on-site visits which will be conducted by Maine DOE staff. If you are unable to participate, please designate a back-up person and contact us as soon as possible. Please contact Sheryl Banden at sheryl.banden@maine.gov to register and obtain teleconference connection information by Oct. 11, 2013.
