The Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) Awareness Program for EMS Providers is now available to Maine EMS services.

Funded by the Maine Emergency Services Communications Bureau (ESCB) and developed jointly for the ESCB and Maine EMS, the EMD Awareness Program for EMS Providers is designed to familiarize pre-hospital EMS providers with the EMD process, introduce them to the concept of prioritized response based upon determinant codes and answer any questions about the integration of EMD and EMS.

Contact one of the program trainers through your Regional EMS Office, authorized EMS Training Center or Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) to have the EMD Awareness Program for EMS Providers delivered in your area.

Continuing Education Hours (CEH) have been approved by Maine EMS for the program; each trainer will have a Maine CEH roster at the program for participants to complete and sign.

Special Circumstances Protocol:

There are situations when a patient has a specific medical condition that requires emergency medical treatment, which may not be part of the Maine EMS Prehospital Treatment Protocols. In these situations, patients, parents, and legal guardians may request a Special Circumstances Protocol that would identify the patient’s special medical condition and the treatment(s) required in the event of an emergency.
