For Corrections Officers

In-Service Training Requirements For All Corrections Officers

The following forms are available for download in either PDF or Microsoft Word or Power Point format. You will need the free Adobe Acrobat Reader to view and print them. Microsoft Word format requires either Microsoft Word or the free Microsoft Word Reader. Microsoft PowerPoint format requires either Microsoft PowerPoint or the free PowerPoint Viewer. In 2013, all Correctional Officers will complete training in:

  1. New Law Updates: to include information on the MCJA decertification process, and a review of two cases regarding information on when staff don’t do what they are supposed to as well as any new laws. Material to be provided by Attorney General’s Office.
  2. Staff Domestic Violence Awareness - Lesson Plan available upon request from a Correctional Facility
  3. Transgender Issues - Lesson Plan available upon request from a Correctional Facility
  4. Two (2) elective topics of choice – each facility will choose two (2) topics in areas of need for them.  The topics cannot be required by OSHA, Department of Labor or by Detention and Correctional Standards for jails.

In 2014, all Correctional Officers will complete training in:

  1. New Law Updates: material to be provided by the Attorney General's Office
  2. Interpersonal Communications
  3. Disposition of Contraband Simulation - lesson to include search, contraband collection, report writing.
  4. Mentally Ill Inmates, Crisis Intervention
  5. One (1) elective topic of choice - each facility will choose one (1) topic in area of need for them.  The topic  

           cannot be topics required by OSHA, Department of Labor or by Detention and Correctional Standards for

           County Jails.
