Jobs & Training - 58th Maine State Police Training Troop
"Advanced Techniques Are The Basics Mastered." This week we spent most of our time concentrating on how we would respond to more critical and stressful incidents, namely barricaded subjects and hostage situations. We received classroom instruction on the different scenarios we might face when we get out on the road concerning these topics. We also studied how to respond to an "active shooter" situation. The highlight of the week came on Day 4 of our latest evolution of training. The 58th RTT suited up in "simunitions" gear and headed to a local training ground to practice what we learned in the classroom. The training was the most realistic training any one of us had ever received. Each Recruit had a chance to command a team through many different barricaded subject, hostage, and active shooter scenarios using paint-propulsion weapons.
PT continued hard this week as the 58th again did CrossFit exercises at the pool and in the fitness center. We ran 3 to 5 miles three days out of the week, and did a lot of sit-ups and pushups as well. The remainder of our time was spent studying and working on our uniform and boots. We also continued learning how to use the new reporting system, Maine RMS, used for incident reporting. Finally, the 58th RTT learned how to conduct vehicle pursuits and set-up roadblocks should we ever become involved in a vehicle chase. We are pushing ourselves further and further each week, mentally and physically. Week 3 photos
