    Major Crimes Unit North has 20 detectives, 2 secretaries, 2 polygraphists and 4 sergeants covering Kennebec, Somerset,Penobscot, Piscataquis, Hancock, Waldo,Lincoln, Sagadahoc, Knox, Washington and Aroostook Counties.

    Detectives within the Major Crimes Unit - North work out of facilities located in Calais,Machias, Ellsworth, Bangor, Houlton, Caribou, Skowhegan, Belfast and Augusta.

    The Major Crimes Unit - North responded to sixteen(16) new homicide scenes in 2013. Of the sixteen homicides, ten of the respondent's are facing murder charges, two committed suicide, one was shot by police and two cases were ruled justified. In one of the cases, Oakfield, there were two victims. The homicides occurred in: Chapman, Molunkus Township, Glenburn, Newport, Cushing, Detroit, Trenton, Belfast, Corinth, Oakfield, Rome, Old Town, Augusta, Vassalboro and Ellsworth. The Major Crimes Unit also responded to three police involved shootings (Calais, Searsmont and Old Town).

    The notable cases for 2012 included the following: George Jaime was found guilty of the murder of Starlett Vining who was last seen alive in the fall of 1998. Jaime received a forty year sentence.
