Troop D

Troop D is responsible for the mid-coast area of Maine to include Sagadahoc, Lincoln, Waldo, Knox counties, the southern half of Kennebec County and part of northern Cumberland County. The Troop also patrols Interstate 295 from Brunswick to Gardiner. The Troop's compliment includes a Lieutenant, three Sergeants, 24 Troopers and a secretary. Troop D currently has one Trooper vacancy. The Troop has operated out of the Thomaston Barracks on Route 1 since 1940. The building was renovated and expanded in 1994.

Criminal investigations continued to be a primary focus of Troop D. These cases include but are not limited to domestic violence, child abuse, sexual assaults, fraud via the Internet, burglary, theft, criminal mischief, drug investigations and traffic fatalities. These investigations are in addition to actively working traffic and performing other assigned duties.

Troop D also has many Troopers who are members of specialty units in addition to their regular assigned duties. The specialties include Tactical Team, K-9, Bomb Team, Dive Team, Crisis Negotiator, Evidence Recovery Team (ERT), Crash Reconstruction, Firearms Instructor and Drug Recognition Expert (DRE).

Troop D continues to remain active in the three Resource Coordination Agreements we have with Kennebec, Knox and Waldo Sheriffs Departments.

Troop D has started a program that will have the Troopers visiting the schools within the Troop on random days. There are three major benefits to the program. First, the Troopers will cut down on gas consumption by being able to use the schools WI-FI systems to do reports. Second, the Troopers will be able to interact with the staff and students in the communities they patrol. Third, this will help be a deterrence for future school violence here in Maine. This will foster a good relationship with the communities we continue to serve and protect.
