Troop D is responsible for the mid-coast area of Maine to include Sagadahoc, Lincoln, Waldo, Knox counties, the southern half of Kennebec County and part of northern Cumberland County. The Troop also patrols Interstate 295 from Brunswick to Gardiner. The Troop's compliment includes a Lieutenant, three Sergeants, 25 Troopers and a secretary.
Criminal investigations continues to be a primary focus of Troop D. These cases include but are not limited to domestic violence, child abuse, sexual assaults, fraud via the Internet, burglary, theft, criminal mischief, drug investigations and traffic fatalities. Troopers do these investigations and are also committed to actively working traffic and performing other assigned duties.
Troop D also has many Troopers who are members of specialty units in addition to their regular assigned duties. The specialties include Tactical Team, K-9, Bomb Team, Dive Team, Evidence Recovery Team (ERT), Crash Reconstruction, Firearms Instructor and Drug Recognition Expert (DRE).
Troop D continues to remain active in the two Resource Coordination Agreements we have with Kennebec and Waldo Sheriffs Departments. Troop D handles 50% of the calls for service in Kennebec County and 33% in Waldo County. This is in addition to handling calls for service in Knox, Lincoln, Sagadahoc and northern Cumberland Counties as well. Troop D Troopers handled 11,850 calls for service during 2012.
The Maine State Police has a program that has Troopers visiting the schools within the State on random days. There are three major benefits to the program. First, the Troopers will cut down on gas consumption by being able to use the schools WI-FI systems to do reports. Second, the Troopers will be able to interact with the staff and students in the communities they patrol. Third, this will help be a deterrence for future school violence here in Maine. This will foster a good relationship with the communities we continue to serve and protect.
Troop D Troopers continue to be very active when it comes to enforcing Maine's tough Drunk Driving Law. Troop D Troopers arrested 106 intoxicated motor vehicle operators during 2012.
The Maine State Police works very closely with the Sexual Assault Crisis and Support Centers throughout Maine. This link will show you a recent PSA relating to the crime of sexual assaults. You can make a difference by speaking out! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=itUTMrq7iYI
