Troop JTroop J is responsible for providing professional, full service law enforcement services to the people of Hancock and Washington counties. The Troop currently has a compliment of 1 lieutenant, 3 sergeants, and 15 troopers. The troop’s main office is located in Ellsworth but the troop also has field offices in Machias and Calais. Troopers within the Troop also provide specialty services such as defense tactics instruction, accident reconstruction, evidence collection and firearm instruction. In addition, several Troopers within the Troop are Tactical Team members and two have K-9's. Troop J partners with the Hancock and Washington County Sheriff Offices by participating in two resource sharing agreements. These agreements maximize the effectiveness of limited law enforcement resources in rural areas and promote cooperation. To report a crime of a non-emergency nature or provide information on an ongoing investigation, follow these three steps: 1.) Select the "Online Services" tab at the top of this page. 2.) Select the "Report a Crime" option. 3.) Select "Troop J" then fill in the blanks The information you provide will be evaluated at our earliest conveinence. This function is not designed for crimes that require immediate response, however.
