State of Maine Gold Star Honor Roll

The following servicemembers have given their lives in defense of freedom since September 11, 2001. The families of these heroes were presented the Maine Gold Star Honorable Service Medal in recognition of their servicemember's dedication, duty and ultimate sacrifice while serving our state and nation in support of combat operations.

US Navy
CMDR Schlegel, 38 of Gray, Maine, was killed as a result of a terrorist attack on the Pentagon. Robert was assigned to the Pentagon.

MSgt Andrews, 36, of Solon, Maine, was killed in a forklift accident while helping in the construction of an airstrip in the Persian Gulf emirate of Qatar. Evander was assigned to the 366th Civil Engineer Squadron from Mountain Home Air Force Base in ID. |

LCDR Clukey, 33, of Orono Maine, died of injuries received when the US Navy F/A-18 Hornet he was piloting crashed in the Adriatic Sea during a routine training exercise in international waters. Robert was assigned to Strike Fighter Squadron 34 embarked on the USS George Washington (CVN 73). |

CPT Tranchemontagne, 32, of Portland, ME, died of a non-combat cause at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Daniel was assigned as a staff officer with the 368th Engineers in Kuwait until he was diagnosed with an illness and evacuated to Walter Reed.
