The controlled moose hunt is scheduled for 14-23 September, 2011 and will occur on farm land specified by Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife in Aroostook County. The hunters will be divided into two teams; one team will hunt from 15-17 September and the second team will hunt from 19-21 September. This year our plan is to house all veterans and guides at the Smoldering Lake Outfitters Lodge in Bridgewater, Maine if possible. This will give veterans and guides the opportunity to plan the next day activities, socialize in the evenings and reduce the travel costs for the veterans and guides. We are really pleased that Paul House from the The House in the Woods Military and Family Retreat and Dave Hentosh from Smoldering Lake Outfitters will be coordinating the hunt and guides again this year. Three permits are designated for out of state "wounded warriors" that have become disabled since 2003 from their service in Iraq and Afghanistan. These veterans will be chosen and sponsored by national organizations that support "wounded warriors". Maine Veterans' Services is looking for sponsors for the 2011 Disabled Veterans Contolled Moose Hunt. The goal for this year is to raise $7,500 dollars to sponsor the in-state costs for all ten disabled veterans participatig in the 2011 Controlled Moose Hunt. If an organization or individual would like to sponsor a veteran ($750) or donate towards this hunt and other outdoor opportunities for disabled veterans please contact Peter Ogden at 207-430-6034. Congratulations to these disabled veterans. The Bureau of Veterans' Services would like to thank all our veterans for their service and the many sacrifices each of them have made in service to our nation.
